Investigations on the genetic structure of the autochthonous Norway spruce population Carlsfeld in the Ore mountains and its progenies as basis for the evaluation of the effectivity of gene conservation measures
1996

The aim of the investigations presented was firstly to characterise the genetic structure of the Norway spruce population ''Carlsfeld'' in the Ore Mountains and secondly to evaluate the suitability of provenance trials for ex- situ gene conservation measures. The population Carlsfeld showed high values of genetic diversity and heterozygoty as compared to the average values in Central Europe and to populations of other parts of the distribution area. Further on, a high number of rare alleles could be observed. According to the results progenies descended from different seed collection years and planted at different trial plots represent the genetic structure of the parent population Carlsfeld. Consequently the use of provenance trials established according to breeding aims seems principally possible for ex-situ gene conservation measures.
