Kristofik, J. (Slovenska Akademia Vied, Bratislava (Slovak Republic). Zoologicky Ustav)
In 1991-1993, the community composition of small mammals was studied in two areas of Slovakia - hardwood floodplain forests along the Morava river, where 2,795 individuals of seven species were caught during 10,800 trap-nights, and softwood floodplain forests along the Danube river, where 4,697 individuals of nine species were caught during 15,750 trap-nights. Clethrionomys glareolus and Apodemus flavicollis were eudominant and euconstant in the hardwood floodplain forests, whereas C. glareolus, Sorex araneus and Apodemus sylvaticus were eudominant and euconstant in the softwood floodplain forests. High relative density and low diversity and equitability were characteristic of the communities in both areas.
