No significant differences in chemical composition and energy value were found between the traditional field bean cultivar and the other strains. The most susceptible to weather conditions was lipid content of the grain. The weight of 1000 grains was positively correlated with the contents of non-N extract compounds (r=0.681) and grain energy value (r=0.655). A negative correlation was found between the weight of 1000 grains and total protein (r=-0.625) and crude fiber (r=-0.405) contents. The total protein content was negatively correlated with the seed yield (r=-0.451). An increase in the seed yield by 1 t/ha corresponded to 0.5 percent decrease in protein content. The content of non-N extract compounds was negatively correlated with total protein (r=-0.837) and crude fiber (r=-0.665) contents, whilst a positive correlation with the energy value (r=0.803) was observed
