Condition of natural environment in Wroclaw with special respect to soils
1998
Meinhardt, B.
The purpose of the study was to determine the environmental pollution of soils in Wroclaw. The soil samples were collected from gardens, grassland and Szczytnicki Park. Chemical properties of soils and contents of heavy metals were determined in all the samples, while the concentrations of sulphur, fluorine and aromatic polynuclear hydrocarbons were measured in some selected samples. Cd, Cr and Ni were present in the majority of the samples collected. Elevated Zn, Pb and Cu levels were found sporadically. The soils exposed to industrial emmissions and those collected in the vicinity of heavy traffic were higher in heavy metals than the soils in environmentally unstricken areas.
