Inhibition of selected heavy metals translocation by mycorrhizal mycelium - effect of a growth form and symbiotic fungus

Mycorrhiza enhances the survival of plants in the environments highly contaminated with heavy metals. Cd and Pb accumulation in mycorrhizal fungi A. citrina, A. muscaria, and L. nebularis structures, and their translocation inhibition, were dependent on the growth form and the species of fungus. The lowest accumulation of the metals was found in the vegetative mycelium, while highest in mycorrhizal roots. In the ectomycorrhizas, the accumulation and the inhibition of translocation of selected heavy metals were also related to the species of the host plant
