The article presents the effects of mineral fertilizers (NPK) on the the occurrence of actinomycetes from genus Streptomyces in soil environments of mountain grassy ecosystems, represented by Arrhematheretum elatioris and Gladiolo-Agrostidetum. The investigations were carried out in the Pieniny Mountains in 1991-95. Mineral fertilization increased both c.f.u. and the number of species of actinomycetes. Moreover the percentages of strains with antagonistic properties were higher as compared to control soils. The highest N rates from the fifth year of fertilization decreased the number of the actinomycete species. The decline of the antagonistic strains from genus Streptomyces subsequently affected the antibiotic activity of biocenosis. This is a negative effect on ecological stability of the ecosystems under investigation
