Effect of Glogow copper smelter emission on heavy metal contents in soil and apple and black currant fruits

Within 1993-98 Cu and Pb contents were measured in soils from orchards as well as in apple and black currant fruits in the area of Glogow copper smelter (5-8 km distance from emitter). Heavy metal contents in soil and fruits were higher than these from a control object 200 km away from the smelter. No correlation was found between high contents of heavy metals in soil and their level in fruits in the neighbourhood of Glogow plant. Irrespective of its content in soil, the Pb in black currant fruits exceeded permissible level
