Application of microsatellites as highly polymorphic informative markers is an important tool for preservation of genetic variability in domestic animals. The broad use of microsatellite markers is inevitable in the fields of gene mapping, estimation of genetic distances and paternity testing. The introduction of fluorescent automated DNA fragment analyzers allowed fast and simple genotyping of large number of samples. In our laboratory we are using microsatellite markers for identification of genetic variability among different breeds in sheep, pig, horse and cattle.
