Cover sanitary landfilling sites made up of halo-hydromorphic soils were studied in Argentina (34 deg 50' 50" lat. S and 58 deg 18' 45" long. W). Representative samples of different ages (2, 5, 7 and 9 year old) and in two microrelief landscape situations were taken from three different layers, at 0-10, 10-30 and 30-50 cm. Electrical conductivity (EC), pH and extractable phosphorus (EP) were measured. These values were lower in the surface layer of the cover than in the other two. The presence of basic salts moving downward in the profile may explain pH and EC values, while the partial mixture of mineral soil and organic refuse may be the cause of the highest EP contents in the deep layer. There is a strong relationship among the three variables analyzed in this paper. Their association with the age of the filling (age factor) tends to be slightly negative
