By an exploratory research aimed to get basic information on managerial performance of sustainable farms, 134 farms were surveyed. They represent 44% of all farms, that were farming according to The Guidelines for Eco-farming in Slovenia, and were on the 1. July 1999 controlled by the Agricultural Institute Maribor. An average Slovene eco-farm utilises 14ha of agricultural land or 2ha of arable land, 0,29ha of orchards, 0,13ha of vineyards and 11ha of grassland. Farmer is unsatisfied with his/her economic situation. Yet, he/she is convinced that it can be improved by eco-farming or by public support to it. Investment ambitions of surveyed farms to extend and to diversify their activities are very high. However, they do not have enough proper funds to fulfil them. Out of all surveyed farms, 61% is practising sales activities autonomously. Comparably, they are more satisfied with their economic situation, and are planing to extend their sales.
