This contribute would give a datum-scheme about the actual diffusion of the biotech crops in the world and sketch out the hypothetical future scene, particularly for the seed sector involved in the multiplication of the sugar beet and of various kind of vegetables. The present market situation shows a clear trend of expansion at international level, both for production and for experimentation of biotech cultivars. The future perspectives point out interesting economic situations, particularly for the agricultural sector. In this sector the seed multiplication holds a strategic value. In the second part of the study, the situation of the seed production in an area of Romagna has been examined, showing its economic weight and the problems brought about by the present regulations

[Questo contributo intende fornire un quadro riguardante la diffusione attuale delle colture biotecnologiche a livello mondiale e tentare di disegnare uno scenario futuro ipotetico, in particolare per il settore sementiero impegnato nella moltiplicazione della barbabietola da zucchero e di varie colture ortive. L'attuale situazione di mercato evidenzia una chiara tendenza espansiva a livello internazionale, tanto per la produzione quanto per la sperimentazione di cultivar biotecnologiche. Le prospettive future mettono in luce situazioni economiche interessanti, in particolare per il settore agricolo. In questo ambito, il settore della produzione sementiera assume un valore strategico.
