Augmentative release of trichogramma as a bio-control agent against Helicoverpa armigera on tomato
2000
Manandhar, R. | Devkota, S.R. (Agriculture Research Station, Lumle (Nepal))
The augmented release of Trichogramma chilonis as a bio-control agent was carried out as an important component of integrated pest management (IPM) approaches to manage tomato fruit borer (Helicoverpa armigera) at Yampaphant (Nepal) during the year 1998 and 1999. The effectiveness of laboratory produced T. chilonis was assessed. The results revealed that Trichogramma release lead to increased rate of parasitisation in the field, more marketable fruit yield and less bored fruit yield. The average ration of parasite-larvae in the released plot was 6:1 as compared to 1:1 under natural condition. More than 50 percent increase in marketable fruit yield and 19-88 percent decrease in bored fruit yield were found in Trichogramma released plot as compared to the control one.
