Influence of magnesium deficit in the soil on distribution of this element in potato plant
1999

The problem was explained in three year pot experiment (1995-97) on two middle early potato cultivars, Maryna and Muza. Magnesium contents in leaves, stems and tubers were determined at the end of blooming period. Its total content in plants was on average 1.64 percent ADM at higher level of magnesium in the soil and 0.52 percent ADM at its deficit. However, its distribution in particular parts of plants was different - 7 percent in tubers and 43 percent in stems at higher magnesium level in soil and 21 percent in tubers and 31 percent in stems at magnesium deficit. Mg content in leaves were the same: 48-50 percent. Thus, the stems were a specific reservoir of magnesium for tubers in case of its deficit in the soil
