Change of quality surface dependence on distance from a municipal waste dump

Water samples from the drainage ditches of the Swojczyce dump in Wroclaw (Poland) taken over the period November 1998 - April 2000 were assayed for the alkaline elements content, nitrate and ammonium nitrogen, phosphates, pH and BOD5. It was found that with increasing distance from the dump parameters the waters in the ditches under go self-cleaning, since values of all the quality water parameters decrease, save for the slightly increasing pH value. Moreover, it was found that in the longer ditch I (western) the reduction of pollution is larger than in ditch II (eastern)
