The response quality of Cichorium spinosum and Scolymus hyspanicous to conventional and organic fertilizers and quality changes during storage at low temperatures
1998
Nikaj, B.
Three replicates of four treatments: unfertilized control, mineral fertilizer KNO3, and two different organic fertilizers OF1=Viorgan and OF2=Genesis were established for Cichorium spinosum and Scolimus hispanicus under greenhouse conditions. Growth parameters, mineral nutrients, vitamin C, and nitrate levels at harvest time were evaluated as well vitamin C and weight loss after 5, 10 and 15 days in storage at low temperatures 0-1 C. Both organic fertilizers compared with mineral fertilizer MF demonstrated to be the most suitable for better growth parameters and quality, showing a higher fresh weight FW and dry matter DM, as well as a higher amount of mineral elements for both C. spinosum and S. hispanicus. As concern vitamin C content in C. spinosum leaves, the fertilizers did not show any significant difference.
