Use of natural plant extracts as productive enhancers in modern animal rearing practices
2000
Tschirch, H. (Pancosma Central and Eastern Europe, Vienna (Austria))
In these times of demanding animal breeding practices, good nutrition is seen as a primary strategy in animal productivity. Food safety, as it relates to the maintenance of both animal and human health and welfare, now depends to a large extent upon the inclusion of feed components deemed "consumer safe". In Europe, the growing unwillingness to rely upon classical solutions involving antibiotic or antimicrobial agents has given rise to several alternative strategies, such as that based on natural plant extracts and their intrinsic active properties. New state-of-the-art scientific methods are being used to prove its potential pitfalls and benefits as a valid alternative for the future
