Impact of the Uruguay Round Agreement on the main import and export of agricultural products in Tunisia
1997
Ben-Slimane, S.
The Uruguay Round Agreement on agriculture has created a completely new legal framework for agricultural policies and trade. The Agreement includes rules and commitments on border measures, domestic subsidies, and export subsidies. Tunisia consolidated all agricultural products with respect to reduction of tariffs and domestic support. Tunisia has no commitments on the reduction of export subsidies. High tariffs appear to be on the strategic products, including some major exports such as olive oil and citrus. On the other hand, unilateral liberalization has been the key feature to Tunisia's trade policies since the mid-1980s. Reduction of price support and input subsidies is envisaged in lines with Tunisia's commitment in the Uruguay Round, UR. In this study recent works in the likely effects of the UR on the world prices are surveyed.
