Effects of negative air ionization on the performances of broilers

Two trials were carried out to evaluate if negative air ionisation (done with a specific apparatus) was able to improve the performances of broilers raised in different conditions, that is, in stalls with a high pollution level due to dust, mould and other pathogenic microorganisms (first test) and in stalls with a low level (second test). Each experiment involved 1,100 Ross strain male chicks raised on the litter for a 60 day period, divided in 2 groups of 550 each, kept in adjacent stalls exactly alike for shape, dimensions and heating systems, but different for the presence or absence of ionisation apparatus. The ionisation, in both tests, favourably conditioned the health of the chicks and stimulated a higher growth rate by lowering the dust and inactivating the pathogenic microflora suspended in the air. The experimental groups were advantaged, compared to the control groups: 4.55% for the first test and 2.78% for the second. Instead, there was no variation, between the groups and for both test, for the feed efficiency or for the dressing percentage

Sono state istituite due prove allo scopo di valutare se la ionizzazione negativa dell'aria, realizzata con appositi apparecchi ad effetto a punta, fosse in grado di migliorare le performance di broilers allevati in differenti condizioni ambientali, vale a dire, in stalli caratterizzati da elevato inquinamento da polveri, muffe ed altri microrganismi patogeni (1. prova) e da basso inquinamento (2. prova). Ciascuna sperimentazione ha interessato 1.100 pulcini maschi di ceppo Ross allevati su lettiera per un periodo di 60 giorni, divisi in due gruppi di 550 soggetti ciascuno, albergati in stalli attigui, perfettamente identici per forma, dimensioni e sistema di termoregolazione, ma diversificati per la presenza dell'impianto di ionizzazione. Mediante l'abbattimento della polvere e l'inattivazione della microflora patogena sospesa nell'aria la ionizzazione, in entrambi le prove, ha condizionato favorevolmente lo stato di salute dei soggetti ed ha stimolato nei medesimi una piu' elevata velocita' di crescita. Gli animali da esperimento si sono infatti avvantaggiati rispetto a quelli di controllo in ragione del 4,55% per la prima prova e del 2,78% per la seconda. Nessuna variazione di rilievo e' stata invece registrata per l'indice di conversione, per le rese di macellazione e la pigmentazione della cute dei tarsi
