The aim of the paper is to learn the effects of the traffic roads on the content of heavy metals in 100 m wide belts of land on the chosen stretches of country roads. For the study three stretches of the roads were chosen: 1. Lublin-Piotrkow; 2. Warsaw-Przemysl; 3. Cracow-Medyka. In each of these experimental areas, soil samples were taken at distances of 10, 20, 50 and 100 m from the road and depths: 0, 5, 10-20 and 35-45 cm. The concentrations of heavy metals in nearly all the soils studied were very similar to their natural values. However, there was some accumulation of heavy metals, especially Pb, Zn and Cu, up to 50 m from the roads
