[Development and test of a new mixing-feeding equipment [ruminants - animal feeding]]

This report gives the results of experimental tests aimed at developing and evaluating the performance of a mixer-feeder prototype based on a new operating system consisting of two, parallel, horizontal augers lying on different planes both horizontally and vertically and fitted with reverse screws flighting on the same shaft; this system is claimed to be able to prepare total mixed rations (TMRs) for ruminants. The success of the TMR technique and the consequent diffusion of mixer-feeders have spurred the development of new mixing systems with the purpose of making available a wide range of machines thus allowing their selection based both on the characteristics of the rations and on the requirements of the livestock species to be fed. The tests have permitted highlighting the need of some modifications to be made to the proposed system and monitoring their effectiveness, thanks to a testing method developed by the Treviglio Section of the Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute (ISMA) within a research programme of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Policies. Test results show the validity of the proposed mixing system, which has a wide loading opening, a good utilization of hogger capacity and satisfactory chopping efficiency and mixing uniformity

Nel presente lavoro sono riportati i risultati di prove sperimentali finalizzate alla messa a punto e alla verifica delle prestazioni di un prototipo di carro trinciamiscelatore basato su un innovativo sistema operativo costituito da due coclee orizzontali - a spirali contrapposte - sovrapposte e disassate destinato alla produzione di razioni zootecniche complete per ruminanti. Il notevole successo di questa tecnica di alimentazione e la conseguente diffusione dei carri trinciamiscelatori hanno stimolato la ricerca di nuovi sistemi che permettano di ampliare la gamma di macchine disponibili al fine di consentirne la scelta non solo in funzione della composizione delle razioni, ma anche in base alle esigenze delle specie cui tale tecnica puo' indirizzarsi. Le prove hanno consentito di effettuare alcune modifiche al sistema proposto e di modificarne la portata grazie all'applicazione di un metodo di valutazione messo a punto dalla Sezione di Treviglio dell'Istituto Sperimentale per la Meccanizzazione Agricola nell'ambito di un programma di ricerca del Ministero delle Politiche Agricole e Forestali. I risultati ottenuti hanno consentito di esprimere un giudizio favorevole sul sistema proposto, che presenta un'ampia luce di carico e consente un considerevole sfruttamento della volumetria e soddisfacenti livelli di trinciatura e di miscelazione
