Preliminary results of AI with cooled or frozen semen in trotter mares

[During the first year of use of AI with stored semen in Italy (1996) in horse, on a total of 290 trotter mares inseminated by 14 stallions, pregnancy at 20 d and at the end of the breeding season (= 90 d) was 86 and 85% and 77 and 65%, respectively, with cooled and frozen semen. The cycles exploited per mare were on average 1.5, both with frozen and cooled semen, but with the latter, for not pregnant mares at the end of the breeding season, an higher number of exploited cycles (2.3 vs 1.7 with cooled semen) was recorded]

Nel primo anno di larga applicazione in Italia della FA nel cavallo con materiale seminale conservato (1996), per un totale di 14 stalloni e 290 fattrici da trotto, si e' rilevata una % di gravidanze a 20 d e alla fine della stagione di monta (= 90 d) di 86 e 85 %, contro 77 e 67%, rispettivamente, con materiale seminale refrigerato e congelato. Il numero di cicli utilizzati per fattrice e' risultato in media di 1,5, sia con il materiale seminale congelato, sia con quello refrigerato, ma con quest'ultimo, per le fattrici vuote al termine della stagione di monta, si e' osservato un maggior numero di tentativi (2,3 cicli/fattrice, contro 1,7 con il materiale seminale congelato)
