The winter utilization of anvils play an important role in the biology of great Spotted Woodpecker. As little is know about the factors which influence the pattern of anvil utilization, authors analysed three factors, which may affect the intensity of such utilization, namely (1) the vegetation characteristic - potential supply of cones, (2) seasonal changes in the cones' availability and (3) size of hammered cones
