The effects of growth regulators on growth and tissue nitrate content of lettuce plants (Lactusa sativa L.) grown in soilless (perlite) culture
2000
Neocleous, D.
Lettuce plants (Lactusa sativa L.) were grown under natural greenhouse conditions in substrate (perlite) culture, from November 1998 to May 1999. In the first experiment, lettuce plants were grown using a standard nutrient solution with nitrogen concentration of 100 ppm. The effects of the application of growth regulators on yield and nitrate content were determined. In the second experiment, the plants were grown using solution with different nitrogen concentrations of 50, 100, 150, and 200 ppm to determine the effects on yield, growth and nitrate content of growth regulators application. The objectives of the study are to find effective and commercially compatible ways to obtain a crop, in short time, with a very low nitrate content without affecting significantly shoot fresh weight
