Effects of alternative irrigation-fertigation, and substrate embedded slow release fertilizer on growth, yield and quality characteristics of Daniela tomatoes

The growth, yield and quality characteristics of tomatoes (Lycopersicum esulentum), cv. Daniela grown on a substrate type of perlite and zeolite (2:1), fresh or used, for one year, containing 0,30, 60 or 80g of slow release fertilizer (SRF) with nutrient solution or nutrient alternated with water every 4, 8 and 12 days was studied under greenhouse conditions. To evaluate the responses of tomato plants, fresh, and dry weight of leaves, plant height, leaf production, fruit production, fruit quality and nutrient content of leaves were measured for all the treatments. The substrates, having different frequencies of irrigation, should exhibit diverse effects on tomato growth. Substrates SRFLL (slow release fertilizer low level) with water irrigation, significantly increased plant growth, giving the highest values for fresh leaf weight and dry leaf weight
