Natural growth and economic conditions of the Czech forest
2001
Henzlik, V.
By geomorphology, macroclimate, tree ecotypes and status of the forests, Czech territory is divided into 41 national forest regions. In detail, growth conditions are described using a system of forest site types characterised by vegetation zones and soil properties. The system constitutes a base for decision-making in forest management aimed to ecological stability and sustainability. Among others it is species composition which affects the management - less than one third of the Czech forest stands are dominated by conifers. Practically usable forest site typology has been developed by the Forest Management Institute Brandy n. L. , with a relatively long tradition on the forest management planning. The very first known forest management plan (FMP) was elaborated in 1739 for a private estate and the state forests were completely covered by FMP between 1800 and 1825. Since its foundation 1935, the FMI is the leading institution in the management planning progress. Present main tasks of the FMI are: Information and Data Centre for Forests, National Forest Inventory, Regional Plans of Forest Development and forest certification.
