Sphere. New fungicide for control of powdery mildew and cercospora leaf spot on sugar beet [Beta vulgaris L. - Italy]

This paper reports the results obtained with Sphere against powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot of sugar beet in 11 trials, carried out in Italy, in 1998 and 1999, by Novartis Research and Development Service. The results against foliar diseases obtained by Sphere, sprayed as preventive or at the appearance of first symptoms of the diseases, showed a very good efficacy, in general superior to those obtained with the best market standards. In none of trials any symptom of phitotoxicity or inhibition on the crop was reported. The optimal activity and selectivity of the product was also confirmed by sugar yield results, in particular in the trials with very high pressure the yield increase referring to the untreated was extremely high

Vengono riportati i risultati di 11 prove, effettuate in Italia nel 1998-99 dal servizio Ricerca e Sviluppo di Novartis, con Sphere contro l'oidio e la cercosporiosi della barbabietola. Sphere, utilizzato con trattamenti preventivi o alla comparsa dei primissimi sintomi, ha evidenziato un'efficacia in genere superiore a quella dei prodotti di riferimento. Nelle prove non sono mai stati osservati sintomi di fitotossicita' sulla coltura. L'attivita' del prodotto e' anche confermata dai risultati della produzione di zucchero ad ettaro che, nelle prove caratterizzate da una elevata pressione della malattia, ha dimostrato incrementi elevatissimi rispetto al testimone non trattato
