Changes in nutrient distribution in apple orchard soil as the effect of fertigation and irrigation. Pt. 1. Ammonium and nitrates

It was found that fertigation affected electric conductivity (EC), pH, N-NH4 and N-NO3 levels in the soil under the dripper. Fertigation with ammonium nitrate increased N-NO3 content in the soil within the radius of 40 cm from the dripper. One month of drip irrigation following the fertigation leached N-NO3 from under the dripper and formed N-NO3 accumulation zone within the radius of 20 to 40 cm. Fertigation with ammonium nitrate caused a decrease of pH by 1,0-1,5 units in the soil under the dripper, which depended on the distance from it. Because of the N-NO3 and N-NH4 accumulation it is suggested that soil samples should be collected from the accumulation zone, i.e. at a distance of 40 cm from the dripper
