A field experiment was conducted for 3 years (1996-98) to study the influence of barley, oats and triticale grown in pure and mixed stands on the number of weeds and weight per unit area. Canopy infestation with weeds was determined 6 weeks after spraying the cereals with herbicide and at full maturity of the cereals. Barley was most competitive with weeds till the flowering stage. At full maturity of the cereals, the weed infestation was greater in pure triticale stand and oats-triticale mixture than in other stands. On the same date significantly smaller weed weights per unit area were noted in the canopies of pure oats, barley-oats and barley-oats-triticale mixtures
