Evaluation of some Citrus genotypes as ornamental plants

إنجليزي. From the germplasm of the Istituto Sperimentale per l'Agrumicoltura, Acireale (Catania, Italy) we isolated twenty-six accessions of Citrus species and relatives with interesting ornamental characteristics, not grown in Italian nurseries. These accessions were grafted in the Spring of the 1998 on six rootstocks and, after two months, they were cultivated in pots of 7.8 litres. Particularly, the C5393 hybrid, the tachibana mandarin and the S. Barbara red lime, for early and high fruit production and good canopy volume, and the red lemon, for the typical red peel, showed good possibility as ornamental plants. The Alemow and volkamerian lemon were the best rootstocks

[Dal germoplasma conservato presso l'Istituto Sperimentale per l'Agrumicoltura di Acireale (Catania) abbiamo isolato 26 accessioni di specie di agrumi e collegate con caratteristiche ornamentali interessanti, non allevate in vivai italiani. Queste accessioni sono state innestate nella primavera del 1998 su sei portinnesti e, dopo due mesi, sono state coltivate in vasi di 7,8 litri. In particolare, l'ibrido C5393, il mandarino tachibana e la lima rossa di Santa Barbara, per la produzione elevata e precoce di frutti e buon volume della chioma, e il limone rosso, per il tipico esocarpo rosso, facevano intravedere buone possibilita' come essenze ornamentali.
