A profile of the Cretan economy and how will be affected by the "Euro"
2000
Poulinakis, G.
The adoption of a common currency on 1 January 1999 by the countries of the European Union was probably one of the most significant events of the 20th century. It constituted the last phase of political union for the European Union and would involve significant changes in the European economy. This reseach study begins with a brief description of the European currency system, the common currency (EURO), and of its impact on the economies of the European countries and Greece. The ultimate objective of the work was to study the impact of the "Euro" on the economy of Crete and to see how well prepared Cretan companies are to adapt to the changes required.
