Seeds of two hot pepper cultivars were subjected to osmoconditioning (PEG) and matriconditioning (MCE) and then directly before sowing, either treated with a chemical seed dressing or sown without fungicide protection. The yield and quality of fruit as depending on the applied seed treatments was evaluated in field experiments conducted in parallel at two research stations. The analysis of seed vigour concerned speed and capability of emergence, fresh and dry weight a seedling, DNA content in a seedling. For the majority of tested parameters the results obtained with seed matriconditioning were better than those with osmoconditioning
