Unknown reason of shoot tip burn, necrosis of young leaf margins leading sometimes to declining of magnolia shrubs was observed lately in production. The aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis links the described symptoms with deficient or toxic level of some nutrients in plants of magnolia. Two cultivars were chosen: M. liliiflora 'Nigra' and M. x loebneri 'Leonard Messel'. Macro- and microelements contents were determined in healthy plants and those showing symptoms of shoot tip burn. Contents of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and all microelements except copper did not differ significantly between two compared groups of plants. Little lower calcium and significantly lower copper contents in plants showing sypmtoms of shoot tip burn were detected
