Development situation, characteristics and problems of rural areas in Slovenia

In the article an analysis of development situation, characteristics and problems of different types of rural areas in Slovenia is presented. The analysis is based on typology of rural areas in Slovenia made by Institute of Agricultural Economics. The Slovene countryside is not homogeneous. It is distinguished by its various natural conditions and obstacles, diversified demographic, economic and social structures. The comparative analyses of statistical data based on selected indicators (agricultural, demographic and socio-economic) and survey data were carried out on the sample of the Slovene rural areas. The possibilities of development and the attraction of individual rural areas for living and working there, depends on the demographic situation, the level of economic and social development, natural conditions and on the area's infrastructure.
