Molecular and morphological characterization of an oleander (Nerium oleander L.) collection. Preliminary results

إنجليزي. Oleander (Nerium oleander L.) is one of the most characteristic shrub of Mediterranean area, widely used as ornamental due to its plentiful and lasting flowering as well as to its rusticity. Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis was carried out on 35 varieties of oleander (Nerium oleander L.) in collection at the DISAT, University of Florence. Furthermore, data on morphological characterization of the varieties, based on flower, leaf and fruit characters are reported. UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method using Arithmetic Averages) permitted cluster analysis of data from 6 printer combinations. In only two of the tested varieties exclusive bands were detected. Our preliminary results show that the use of AFLP has potential for precisely characterizing and identifying oleander varieties, for synonymy identification and for phylogenetic studies. It will also be useful for the application of future breeding programmes. The next step of our work will be to increase the number of varieties in study, as well as to apply an higher number of primer combinations. Furthermore, potential genetic variation within each variety will need to be assessed

In questo lavoro sono riportati i primi risultati ottenuti a seguito di caratterizzazione, mediante marcatori AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism), di 35 varieta' di oleandro. Inoltre, sono riportati alcuni dati relativi alla caratterizzazione morfologica basata sulla rilevazione di caratteri delle foglie, fiori e frutti. Mediante analisi dei cluster basata su UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method using Arithmetic Averages), sui dati ottenuti a seguito di applicazione di 6 combinazioni di primer e' stato costruito un dendrogramma riportante le distanze genetiche tra le cultivar in studio. Solo due delle varieta' sono risultate caratterizzate dalla presenza di bande esclusive
