إنجليزي. The use of spray oils for citrus pests and weeds management in Italy began in the 1940s, when they were mainly used to control scales and mites. In recent years their use has been relatively stationary. Use in 1996 was almost 7,000 tons, that represents about the 12% of the insecticides employed for citrus pest control. We believe that rules being implemented by the European Union will lead to an increased use of spray oils in the near future. Their use is compatible with biological and integrated methods, which are already applied in 32,000 ha of citrus groves. The evolution of their use in the latter 50 years, experimental results against key-arthropod pests, beneficials, main weeds of citrus orchards and some data about the influence of sprays on the external and internal traits and yield of sweet orange fruits are reported

L'impiego degli oli minerali nell'agrumicoltura italiana per il controllo dei fitofagi e la gestione della flora infestante ha avuto inizio negli anni '40, quando si usavano principalmente per controllare cocciniglie e acari. Nell'ultimo decennio il consumo si e' mantenuto stazionario, nel 1996 e' stato di 7.000 t circa, che rappresenta il 12% degli insetticidi impiegati nella difesa fitosanitaria della coltura. E' probabile che il loro uso sia destinato ad aumentare, grazie anche alle politiche comunitarie di sostegno e incentivazione alla lotta biologica e integrata, che in Italia interessa attualmente circa 32.000 ha di agrumeti. La nota riassume l'evoluzione del loro uso dal 1952, riporta alcuni risultati sperimentali dell'attivita' contro fitofagi, su insetti utili, erbe infestanti e dati relativi agli effetti sulle principali caratteristiche quali-quantitative dei frutti d'arancio
