Variability of beta-glucan and protein content in barley germplasm [Hordeum vulgare L.]

إنجليزي. The aim of this work was to screen the barley germplasm for beta-glucan and protein contents in order to study the distribution and the variability of this character among the world accessions. Beta-glucan content was determined in 410 accessions of hulled and dehulled barley obtained from the Barley Collection of the Germplasm Institute of Bari. These accessions are representative of germplasm available in the world; in fact they were selected from different Countries: Italy, Ethiopia, Algeria, Nepal, Pakistan, Tunisia, Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Albania, Morocco, Yemen, India, Japan, Iran, Australia, USSR. Beta-glucan content of the 410 barley samples analysed show a normal distribution, with values ranging from 1.82 and 6.01% DM, while the protein content has a range from 7.2 and 21.4% DM

In questo lavoro e' stato condotto uno screening per il contenuto in beta-glucani e proteine nell'ambito del germoplasma di orzo conservato presso l'Istituto del Germoplasma di Bari. Il tenore in beta-glucani e proteine e' stato determinate su 410 accessioni di orzo rappresentative di 21 nazioni e, in particolare, di Italia, Etiopia, Algeria, Nepal, Pakistan, Tunisia, Grecia, Spagna, Cipro, Iraq, Siria, Egitto, Libia, Albania, Marocco, Yemen, India, Giappone, Iran, Australia e Russia. Dai risultati ottenuti, e' emerso che il contenuto in beta-glucani presenta una distribuzione normale, con un intervallo di variazione che va da 1,82 a 6,01% della SS, mentre il contenuto proteico varia da un minimo del 7,2% SS ad un massimo del 21,4% SS
