Influence of soil type on yield and some quality traits of brussels sprouts
2000
Babik, I. (Instytut Warzywnictwa, Skierniewice (Poland). Zaklad Agrotechniki)
Soil suitability for Brussels sprouts cultivation was assessed on 6 soil types, most common in Poland (lessive soil, brown soil, black earth, loess type chernozem, alluvial soil and low moor peat soil). Heavy mineral soils (loess type chernozem and alluvial soil) secured high yiel, good quality of sprouts and high plant productivity, whereas on light soils only medium yield obtained. Low moor peat soils gave a high yield, but plant productivity was low and sprouts firmness and dry matter content was decreased. Apart from the soil types, Brussels sprouts showed low nitrate accumulation, always below the level of 5 mg nitrate per 1 kg of fresh matter
