Feasibility of winter cultivation of cabbage as shown by experiments conducted in Skierniewice

Experiments conducted during 1994-99 revealed a great risk in growing winter cabbage in field conditions not protected against the cold. The risk of frost damage diminishes greatly when the wintering, young cabbage plants are protected with a direct fleece cover (nonwoven PP of 30 g.m-2). This polypropylene (PP) cover gave satisfactory frost protection of the cabbage plants during four out of five winters. For winter growing the most suitable cultivars were the Duncan F1 and Prospera F1
