Response of sugar beet to inoculation with Azotobacter in field trials [Beta vulgaris L.]

إنجليزي. The yield response of sugar beet (Dana, Delta, NS Hy 11) to inoculation with three Azotobacter chroococcum strains (5, 8 and 14) was studied in field experiments. The non inoculated controls of each sugar beet variety were compared with treatments where Azotobacter chroococcum was applied to the seeds. In the non inoculated treatment, the root yield was 68.65 t/ha (average of three years and three varieties) against root yield of 71.84 t/ha with strain 5, 70.33 t/ha with strain 8 and 69.28 t/ha with strain 14. Inoculation of sugar beet with Azotobacter chroococcum resulted in an increase of sugar content and yield of white sugar relative to the non inoculated beets. It was concluded that by bacterial inoculation of sugar beet it might be possible to reduce chemical nitrogen fertilization

[In esperimenti di campo e' stata studiata la risposta produttiva della barbabietola da zucchero (Dana, Delta, NS Hy 11) all'inoculazione con tre ceppi di Azotobacter chroococcum (5, 8 e 14). I controlli non inoculati di ogni varieta' di barbabietola da zucchero sono stati confrontati con trattamenti in cui Azotobacter chroococcum era applicato ai semi. Nel trattamento non inoculato, la produzione di radici e' stata di 68,65 t/ha (media di tre anni e di tre varieta') contro una resa di 71,4 t/ha con il ceppo 5, di 70,33 t/ha con il ceppo 8 e 69,28 t/ha con il ceppo 14. L'inoculazione della barbabietola da zucchero con Azotobacter chroococcum si e' tradotta in un aumento del contenuto di zucchero e della resa in zucchero bianco rispetto alle barbabietole non inoculate. Si e' concluso che mediante l'inoculazione batterica della barbabietola da zucchero potrebbe essere possibile ridurre la fertilizzazione chimica azotata]
