Comparative cytogenetic analysis of bovine and pig oocytes matured in vitro

Bovine and pig oocytes were matured in vitro, under the same experimental conditions, to compare the meiotic progression as well as the incidence and types of chromosomal abnormalities in the two species. The results indicated that: (a) the efficiency of nuclear maturation was significantly higher (P0.001)in pig than in bovine oocytes (78.5 and 65.2%, respectively); (b) the frequency of diploid-MII oocytes was similar in the two species (12.8 and 12.9%, respectively); (c) the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities was significantly higher (P0.001) in bovine than in pig oocytes (22.2 and 9.5%, respectively)
