Spike - corm and cormel production in Gladiolus hybridus (Hort.) as affected by soil type and fertilization [Veneto]

A biennial research was carried out on field-grown Gladiolus in order to evaluate the effect of eight different fertilization formulas (non fertilized control, N, P, K, PK, NPK, manure - L - and L + NPK fertilization) and four soil types (sandy loam, clay, sandy, and peaty soil). The results showed that Gladiolus is strongly affected by both treatments and the effects might also change, depending on the year. Fertilization with both organic and mineral form [50 t ha*[-1) L + 250 kg ha*[-1)N + 125 kg ha*[-1) P2O5 + 250 kg ha*[-1)K2O] gave the best results (i.e. spike m*[-2), spike length, number of florets per spike, corm and cormel production. Just N, NPK or L applications also performed better than the control. Results show the peaty soil to be the most suitable for almost all the production aspects. Good results were also shown by sandy loam and clay soil. The worst performance was always observed in sandy soil, probably due to the low input of fertilizer

Si sono riportati i dati di una ricerca biennale condotta su gladiolo, al fine di valutare l'effetto di diversi concimi (minerale, organico, da soli o in combinazione) e tipi di terreno sulla produzione di infiorescenze e di organi propagativi (cormi e cralen). I risultati ottenuti hanno evidenziato che il gladiolo reagisce in modo vistoso alle variabili considerate. Per quanta riguarda la fertilizzazione, i migliori risultati sono stati ottenuti intervenendo con la concimazione minerale completa in associazione con quella organica [50 t ha*[-1) letame + 250 kg ha*[-1) N + 125 kg ha*[-1) P2O5 + 250 kg ha*[-1) K2O], anche se buoni risultati sono stati ottenuti apportando solamente letame o NPK o azoto. Il terreno organico ha permesso le prestazioni migliori, seguito dall'argilloso e dal franco-sabbioso. Contenute le produzioni ricavate sul terreno sabbioso, verosimilmente dovute all'apporto troppo modesto di fertilizzante
