إنجليزي. Bitter pit is the main nutrient-related disorder in several apple growing areas, including the South Tyrol (Italy). In this region, since 1985, when bitter pit severely damaged the fruit industry, the development of a prediction programme was undertaken, particularly focused on the K/Ca ratio in the young fruit. For 13 years, fruits samples were taken in experimental orchards for analyses at the beginning of July, when the fruitlets have an average weight of 70 g. The main conclusion of the study indicates that calcium and potassium concentration in the fruit provides useful information about the risk of future development of bitter pit and other physiological diseases. When a threshold in the K/Ca ratio is reached in the fruit, growers are recommended to take special measures to prevent bitter pit, such as increasing the number of calcium spays

In questa regione, dal 1985, quando la butteratura amara ha danneggiato seriamente la melicoltura, e' stato intrapreso lo sviluppo di un programma previsionale focalizzato sul rapporto K/Ca nei giovani frutti. Per 13 anni sono stati raccolti campioni di frutti da campi sperimentali per le analisi eseguite all'inizio di luglio, quando i frutticini hanno un peso medio compreso tra 50 e 70 g. Il principale risultato di questo studio indica che la concentrazione di calcio e di potassio nel frutto fornisce utili informazioni circa il rischio futuro di sviluppo della butteratura amara, oltre che di altre avversita' fisiologiche. Quando nel frutto e' oltrepassata una prestabilita soglia nel rapporto K/Ca, si raccomanda ai frutticoltori di applicare misure di prevenzione sulla butteratura amara, tra le quali un aumento nel numero delle irrorazioni con prodotti a base di calcio
