إنجليزي. Some atmospheric properties in the Pacific and Caribbean marine basins close to the Central American Isthmus and their possible interconnections are analized, based on a statistical study. The band describing southern Nicaragua is taken as reference, because it has the least orographic features that may disturbe the Trade winds flow­ing from the northwest (NW) and from the southeast (SE). The atmospheric properties are associated to the incidence of synoptic phenomena like tropical cyclones and their probability of crossing the Isthmus with minimun energy loss. The warm El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) eventsproctuced a systematic weakening of sporadic cyclone type events in the western Atlantic, while in the eastern Pacific, because of surface water temperatures higher than 27°C, they are reinforced. During the transition from warm-ENSO to cold-ENSO events, there are interconnections between both oceanic basin with cyclonic systems crossing the Isthmus, mainly across the Nicaragua depression (from the Atlantic to the Pacific); and with only one Case, through Tehuantepec (from the pacific to the Atlantic). During the cold-ENSO events, similar.conditions to the transition stage can be expected; i.e., the number of events increased in the Atlantic Basin while in the Pacific they are reduced.

Se analizan algunas propiedades atmosféricas de las yertientes marinas del Pacífico y del Caribe adyacentes al Istmo Centroamericano y sus posibles interconexiones, me­diante un estudio estadístico. Se toma como referencia la franja que describe el Sur de Nicaragua, por poseer las pro­piedades orográficas menos perturbadoras para los flujos de vientos alisios del noroeste (NO) y del sureste (SE). Estas propiedades atmosféricas se asocian a la incidencia estadís­tica (ya sea que se forman en la cuenca del Caribe o llegan a la región) de fenómenos sinópticos del tipo "ciclones tro­picales", y su probabilidad de poder cruzar la franja conti­nental con ulla mínima pérdida en energía. Se encuentra que para el Atlántico occidental se da un sistemático debilita­miento de los eventos esporádicos de tipo ciclónico durante el ENSO-cálido, en el Pacífico y debido a la temperatura su­ perficial del agua que supera los 27°C, se da un reenforza­miento. Al darse la transición de ENSO-cálido a ENSO-frío es cuando se dan interconexiones entre ambas vertientes oceánicas, donde sistemas ciclónicos atraviezan el Istmo, principalmente a través del paso de Nicaragua (del Atlánti­co hacia el Pacífico), y con un único caso a través del paso de Tehuantepec (del Pacífico hacia el Atlántico). Para el ENSO-frío, es de esperar condiciones similares a las de la transición, pero aquí el número de eventos aumenta signifi­cativamente en el Atlántico y disminuye en el Pacífico.
