Winter onions and their cultivation is a topic, about which information and also practical in Latvia not much experience, so winters onions were selected in the demonstration project “Effects of different plant protection methods on onion and strawberry growth and yield in the conditions of Latvia” (contract No: LAD130519/p29). One of the most important onions diseases that reduce the germination of small onions, storage of finished products, as well as onion coppice, is a fusarial of onion bases rot. Fusarium head rot is caused by fungi of the genus Fusarium, mainly Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. The fungicide Mycostop is registered in Latvia, which contains actinomycete or special bacteria — Streptomyces ray, isolated in Finland from sphagnum mosses, and previously researched has shown a significant effect on Fusarium limiting diseases caused by fungi of the genus. Two varieties were tested in the trial, comparing extra raw onion, and treated with Mycostop 0.01% of onion crops indicators, two options in total. Trial was repeated for three years. The graph shows the average yield of winter onions (kg/square metre) and the effect of Mycostop (blue bar) compared to control (green bar), results in the 2021 season trial. On average, the use of Mycostop increased the average yield of onions (for the variety ‘Shakespear’ yield increase +11%, for the variety ‘Senshy Yellow’ +11.3%.), which when converted to one hectares, there is an increase of 2–3 tons in comparison with a raw version.
