El Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi, IGAC, es la entidad encargada de producir el mapa oficial y la cartografía básica de Colombia; elaborar el catastro nacional de la propiedad inmueble; realizar el inventario de las características de los suelos; adelantar investigaciones geográficas como apoyo al desarrollo territorial; capacitar y formar profesionales en tecnologías de información geográfica y coordinar la Infraestructura Colombiana de Datos Espaciales (ICDE). (IGAC, 2019) El Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi y la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas tienen un convenio de cooperación interadministrativo que permite a los estudiantes de la universidad realizar sus prácticas académicas, y al mismo tiempo adquirir experiencia laboral. En este documento se mostrará el desarrollo de la pasantía en el Grupo Interno de Trabajo (GIT) de producción cartográfica. Perteneciente a la Subdirección de Geografía y Cartografía del IGAC. Donde el objetivo general del proyecto es levantar, recopilar y estructurar la información análoga concerniente al proceso de clasificación de campo de acuerdo a los estándares técnicos previstos, del GIT de Producción Cartográfica.
