Temporal Dynamics of LULC with Environmental and Climatic Parameter Assessment using Remote Sensing and GIS: A Case Study in Dimbe Reservoir, Ambegaon Taluk, Maharashtra, India: Use of Remote sensing and GIS for LULC assessment

In India, climate change is anticipated to increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, monsoon variability, and new disasters. This study was conducted to detect Land Use Land Cover (LULC) changes in Ambegaon Taluk, Pune District, Maharashtra. The study utilized supervised classification and data obtained from Landsat 4-5TM and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS1 Level-1 imagery for the years 2000 and 2021, respectively. The satellite images were pre-processed and classified using the ArcGIS tool. Additionally, temporal variations of environmental and climatic parameters were analyzed using Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS1 Level-1 imagery in the Dimbhe reservoir of Ambegaon Taluk. The SNAP and ArcGIS tools were used to obtain Chl-a, Total Suspended Solids, and Water Surface Temperature data from Landsat-8 imagery. Mann Kendall (M-K) test, were employed to analyze the seasonal trends of environment and climatic parameters in the reservoir while multiplicative seasonal decomposition and the Holt-Winters method were used to forecast the data. The study demonstrates a significant change in the settlement area, with a 31.17 percent increase from 2000 to 2021. This change involved the conversion of 19.29 percent of agricultural land and 12.74 percent of barren land. In the Dimbhe reservoir, the findings indicate a rising temperature trend during the pre-monsoon season, accompanied by a decreasing trend in total mean rainfall and wind speed throughout the winter season. These seasonal variations in climatic and environmental parameters within the study area reflect the spatio-temporal dynamics of land use and land cover changes. It is essential to consider these changes to address future land use concerns effectively.
