In the area of Vojvodina Province, the occurrence of drought is very common and it significantly affects agricultural production. In this paper, the period from 1971. to 2019. for the area of Srem is analysed, based on data from meteorogical station Sremska Mitrovica. The drought index Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) was used and it is calculated by using DrinC software for a period of 1 month (SPI1), 3 months (SPI3), 6 months (SPI6) and 12 months (SPI12). By analyzing all values of drought index, it can be concluded that long-term drought periods of different intesity occur in the observed period. From the aspect of agriculture the hydrological year 1999-2000 was extreme. In that period there was a long-lasting extreme drought that lasted 6 months, from April to September 2000.
