Effect of phosphate fertilizer, organic amendments and microbial inoculant on the growth and yield of selected vegetable crops in an acid upland soil
2018
Magtoltol, J.B.
Field trials were conducted to assess the effect of different rates of phosphorus, organic amendments (chicken manure and Well-grow) and microbial inoculant (MykoPlus on the growth and yield of cabbage and sweet pepper in an acid upland soil in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Application of P improved agronomic characteristics of cabbage and sweet pepper and were enhanced with the addition of MykoPlus. For cabbage, application of 50 and 100 kg P2O5/ha in combination with MykoPlus produced comparable yields. However, because of higher NPK uptake and yield with 100 kg P2O5/ha , a higher return on investment (ROI) was attained. For sweet pepper, application of 62.5 kg P2O5/ha produced comparable yield with application of 125 kg P2O5/ha and a higher ROI. Application of organic amendments such as chicken manure (CM) and Well-grow (WG) produced comparable yields as the application of recommended rate of fertilizer (RRIF). For cabbage, combining CM + RRIF + MykoPlus produced the highest yield and ROI. For sweet pepper, application of CM + RRIF + MykoPlus produced higher yield but lower ROI than CM + MykoPlus.
