Assessing the nutritional status of the elderly
1982
Abstract: In a roundtable of medical and scientific professionals nutritional assessment of the elderly focused on determing: definitions for normality and abnormality; sensitivity and specificity characteristics; positive or negative test values; and appropriate population data. Existing limitations were identified to point the way for further research. Two approaches were undertaken. The first presented general concepts and problems of collecting and interpreting data, and the second dealt with specific types of measurements. The conclusions were: 1) age-, sex-, and population-specific should be based upon actual distribution data of normal standards; and 2) limited data has been published relevant to older adults. (kbc).
