Op grond van fysisch en mechanisch bodemonderzoek, toegespitst op de Nederlandse situatie en daarmee voornamelijk op zandgronden, worden criteria gegeven voor de beoordeling van de bodem en richtlijnen voor de inzet van terreinvoertuigen. De bestaande classificatiesystemen voor bodem en groeiplaats blijken slecht te correleren met een aantal fundamentele bodemeigenschappen en daardoor praktisch onbruikbaar voor het voorspellen van de bodemsterkte
